Los Angeles Zoo

Yes, it's a zoo to come to the zoo on Memorial Day weekend; but that is what we did.  We came later in the day when the lines had gone down a little.  I bought some tickets on ebay at $20 for the 4 of us to get in.  This was the first visit to the zoo for youngest since she was a baby.  The zoo is not our most favorite place to go; but thought my youngest needed to go out and see some zoo animals.  They had more fun at the playground area than the zoo part.  They did really enjoy the petting zoo though.

Kid's Fishing Day at Castaic

Castaic Lake had a free day of fishing for kids under 15.  The girls had never gone fishing before and thought this might be fun for them.  The oldest pictured themselves fishing on a dock with her pants rolled up and her feet dangling like pictured in books.  My youngest thought they would be catching goldfish.  Very cute!  I told them the reality of fishing.  It is very difficult to catch a fish and they may not catch anything.  They also have to keep the fish they catch and not throw them back in the water.  My oldest didn't want to keep the fish or eat the fish. I told them we would give the fish to their grandparents if they caught one.

We had a hard time finding the location; but eventually got there around 10:30.  The event ended at 12:00.  They gave out free tackle boxes and they were able to get free stuff by visiting a few booths.  They got fish bait and Fin's Glow coupons for free golf.  Yay!  The line to get fishing poles didn't move.  We finally got a pole a little after 11:00.  One the way down to the fishing area, my oldest got poked with the hook and was crying.  Nice way to start the 1st time fishing experience.  While hubby tried casting the lines, I went to go get the free hot dog lunch.  Lunch consisted of hot dogs, chips, Zingers and drinks. When I got back, hubby was still struggling how to cast the lines.  Yes, embarrassing.  Even the girl next to us knew how to do it.  At least he was not to embarrassed to ask her how to do it.  She told him and we finally casted our lines.  The girls had more interest playing in the water than to stand there with a pole.  That was fine cuz we had fun practicing how to cast a line.  My oldest started practicing how to cast and got more enthusiastic.  She did catch some sticks and leaves; but no fish.  I'm glad we didn't catch anything.  The oldest is very sensitive and would not be happy about killing and cleaning the fish she just caught.  They let us stay out until almost 1:00 before we left to let the girls play on the playground.  It was a fun experience.
